When loving you is a losing game,
I remember the story of snake and farmer,
It was a painful game,
Of tag, with the snake biting the farmer,
The farmer fighting to relieve the snake of its pain,
The snake blinded with rage at its overwhelming pain,
The pain was no fault of the farmer,
But the snake lashes out anyway.
I gave love but received hurt,
Turned by you to the butt,
Of your jokes and sneers,
Taking words shared,
Changing them into snares,
Pulling at my emotions,
Hurting me without a care.
For how long would I play?
How long would I leave the power on?
On a game I cannot win,
Where my love is exchanged for hate,
I try to justify why it's all wrong,
It only serves to hurt me more,
Which is why I have chosen to walk on along,
Tonight I am switching that game off.
